There is no bridge to the mainland so access to Orchid Beach on Fraser Island is via vehicular barges, aircraft, cruise vessels, private boats or on a commercial tour.  Roads on Fraser Island are mainly sandy tracks and beaches which can only be negotiated by 4 Wheel Drive vehicles. 4WD: Travel by vehicular barge (Manta-Ray 0418 872 599 or Rainbow Venture (07) 5486 3154) from either Inskip Point or Hervey Bay to the island and drive up the main ocean beach. Hervey Bay is only a 3 1/2 hour drive north of Brisbane or a one hour flight.

4WD Hire: Four Wheel Drives can be hired from either the mainland or the island. Delivery is available at Orchid Beach airstrip, or at Hervey Bay, Rainbow Beach, Noosa or Brisbane. To hire from Brisbane, contact Four Wheel Drive Hire Service (1800 077353)

AIR: You can fly direct to the airstrip at Orchid Beach (charter flights available from most towns including Hervey Bay, Maroochydore or Brisbane). Orchid Beach airstrip is serviced by Air Fraser Island (07 4125 3600) based at Hervey Bay - a 15 min flight away.
